Best answer: adamantium is an attempt to reconstruct the steel alloy that happened with the original captain america shield. it is close to indestructable, and can pretty much cut anything _but_ that original shield. as was mentioned, nobody kept track of how the vibranium and steel got alloyed the first time, so for the most part adamantium is a "close second" at best..
