When you run a build from the command line, or when using android studio 3.3 or later, gradle can automatically download missing sdk packages that a project depends on, as long as the corresponding sdk license agreements have already been accepted using the sdk manager.. And you need to include this repo to download // android gradle plugin 3.0.0 or higher. with this update, you no longer need to specify a version for the sdk build tools. the android gradle plugin now uses version 28.0.3 by default. new features.. Because without any changes to the gradle.build or android sdk, build successful with android plugin for gradle 1.2.3 and gradle version 2.3. probably a bug in the android plugin for gradle. no i haven't raised anything on the android developer group or stackoverflow..
